Networking is all about relationship building. And like anything worthwhile, building networks and relationships take time. When I attend a network event and exchange cards with new colleagues I write on the card where I met the person and one or two words about what came up in our (usually brief) conversation.
Within 24 hours of the each event, I send an email to each of my new colleague with a brief note reminding remind her (or him) of our earlier conversation. I will either pass along a piece of information that I think may be of interest, or simply continue our conversation with another line or two. After that, I will include in the email a reminder about my business, along with information about any specials or discounts I may be offering at that time.
The response to my notes have really gratifying; referrals go back and forth with a feeling of confidence because we created a strong connection. I will not make this effort with everyone whose business card I picked up – just those with whom I had an actual conversation.
My best Networking tip is To SHOWUP as showing up is like a treasure map and you never know what treasure you will meet, and believe me you always meet that person or find out about something that you needed to knoe because you showed up. Also its also about the POWER is in the ASKING, so when you SHOW UP be sure and ASK for what it is you want and need. Also never go anywhere without your business cards, and always wear your For You pin as people will stop you and ask you what the pin is about and that starts some great dialog for you to communicate with them

I enter a networking event with the attitude of “what can I do for you?”. I look for people that I can genuinely connect with, I listen to what they say so that I can offer a resource from the vast pool of people that I know. I then ask for their business card and for their address if it isn’t already on their card. Within 24 hours I send them a personalized greeting card (often times I’ll include a Starbucks gift card so that we can get together for coffee and get to know each other better) to follow up our conversation and the resource that I promised to provide. Who doesn’t like to receive a greeting card in the mail.
The most successful tip I can recommend is whenever you are handing out a business brochure or anything related to your business to stick a ‘post it’ sticker on it. This will remind you to get the persons contact information immediately without searching for a business card, if not handy. Without a business contact your lead is ‘dead’. Have a pen handy to jot down the prospects telephone number, email address, best time to call for a follow up. Brochures, business samples costs money. Why not get this information and make the best use of your time and money.

How about driving a new Mercedes Benz? You can earn this too!
The most successful tip I can recommend is to go for whatever you want. open your heart to good times and bad times one of the other will open up eyes your to see. find someone out in the store or anywhere tell them what your resources are it’s apart of networking and most of the time you can genuinely connect with whatever your visions are. searching for new business can come from a smile on your face as well as saying hello how are you today.A hand may open with a business card that you may be able to help someone with but remember to follow up with them it may have a friendly lunch date and you are networking all over again.
I haven’t found a better place to network than For You Network which uses “the Ultimate Network with Heart”. You meet great women who want to help each other and build their business and also to become each other’s best friend as well. Hopefully you all will become our Life Time Friend/Member!
